Stephen S. Ahokas, DVM, is a reflective and heartfelt devotional that intertwines the Christian seasons of Advent and Passover. The book invites readers to explore deeper connections between the birth and death of Christ, presenting the idea that understanding both events together offers a fuller picture of Jesus’ role as Savior. Through the lens of the Passover, Ahokas draws parallels between the sacrificial lamb in the Old Testament and Christ as the Lamb of God, providing profound insights into the meaning behind these biblical narratives.
The book is organized around weekly reflections, making it ideal for personal or group study during Advent and Lent. Stephen S. Ahokas carefully examines biblical details, focusing on how symbols, like the Passover lamb, foreshadow the coming of Christ. This devotional approach brings a fresh perspective to familiar stories, encouraging readers to reflect on God's plan’s continuity through the Old and New Testaments. Ahokas’ writing style is accessible yet deeply theological, making complex biblical themes easy to grasp. His passion for uncovering the “word pictures” in scripture is evident, and his thoughtful insights provide readers with a renewed appreciation for the events of Christmas and Easter.
‘Twas Christmas to Passover is a powerful resource for those looking to deepen their understanding of Christ’s life. It offers inspiration and spiritual nourishment for believers seeking to explore their faith more profoundly during these significant seasons. This book can become a cherished annual reading for years and generations. It deserves space next to the family Bible.

‘Twas Christmas to Passover by Stephen S. Ahokas is one of the best books on the Passover and its connection to our Lord and Savior I have ever read. The deep insight into the theme of the Passover Lamb shows not only his extensive research but also his delight in bringing light to those who didn’t even know there was more to the story—from the meaning of the word “pesh” to the special types of shepherds who were given the glorious message of the birth of the Passover Lamb. This wonderful devotional will open your eyes to a deeper understanding and appreciation of the birth of Christ and His ultimate sacrifice. Your mind will be challenged, and your understanding will be enlightened. As a minister with over forty years of experience, I recommend this book to every pastor and Christian interested in the birth of Jesus Christ and His substitutionary death.
Can a book be filled with theological ideas and teachings while still being readable and enjoyable? If we are talking about ‘Twas Christmas to Passover by Stephen S. Ahokas, the answer is a resounding “YES!!” This book overflows with definitions and examples to explain the importance of the typology of the birth of Christ. Do you believe that a humble manger was the most improbable place for our Savior to be born? Stephen’s guidance through the maze of Passover traditions shows that not only was it not far-fetched, but it was the most appropriate place for the birth of the Lamb, Who takes away the sins of the world.
As a veterinarian, Stephen knows animals, and in this book, he shows how the lowly sheep illustrate the greatest gift to humanity. Once you start reading this book, you will be compelled to continue as you learn so much in an easy-to-understand manner.

‘Stephen S. Ahokas offers readers an expanded version of ‘Twas Christmas to Passover to outline more elements about the Passover. Believing God writes pictures with words in the Bible, Ahokas presents these weekly readings to be enjoyed during the Advent season. The author outlines a particular verse in Luke's scripture that speaks to him, focusing on hope, preparation, joy, and love. Comparing events of the Passover to Jesus' birth, Ahokas details points that link Jesus to the ultimate sacrificial lamb. He also clearly shows the link between the Old and the New Testaments.
The designs help illustrate his topic, and at the end of each section, Ahokas raises questions for understanding and contemplation.
Of all the Christian books I've read, Stephen S. Ahokas has written one of the most detailed texts about the comparison of Jesus to a sacrificial lamb. I could feel the author's excitement as he relayed his deep understanding of the scripture around Passover, Jesus’s birth, and crucifixion. It is excellent material for Jews and Christians, with descriptions that follow Jewish heritage and specific details about the Passover.
The author mentions finding preparation in prayer and helps his readers explore their true feelings about the meaning of Christmas. I read the book over a couple of days, but it could be easily digestible in weekly increments, giving the reader plenty of time to reflect on the biblical significance. Readers who enjoy books that point to a deeper meaning in scripture will love ‘Twas Christmas to Passover.
